Safety is our primary concern.
Serving the East Goshen Township Community
with up-to-date and relevant information

Basic overview
We are a group of concerned residents from East Goshen Township located in the heart of Chester County, Pennsylvania. We are dedicated to identifying and addressing issues which directly impact the safety of our community. We care about our family, friends, neighbors, and the whole community. But most importantly... We care mostly about our CHILDREN and their safety.
At this time we are concentrating on the lethal policy of our "politicians" and their desires for PRIVATE hunting on PUBLIC open passive land nestled close to our homes where our children live and play. Instead of killing first and ask questions later we need to truly examine other alternatives. We don’t believe recreational hunting (in this case bow-hunting, 4 months, 6 days a week, from sunrise to sunset and for the next 10 years) is the safest means to control deer in a residential area like East Goshen Township. We strongly believe the Township should use others methods - preferably non-lethal methods.
Why do we state "PRIVATE"? Because to be a hunter you have to be a member of a Club.
It's time to focus on the true issues we face in our Township and come up with a rational long term solution. Recreational hunting is not a rational nor sensible solution for it will only prolong the residents' resentment and frustrations. It's time to think outside the box. It's time to do the right thing. It's time to truly control the deer population, fight Lyme disease, and protect lives, vehicles, and other personal properties.
The Issues:
There are three primary issues people associate with deer. From time to time people have claimed deer cause Lyme Disease, deer cause vehicle accidents (DVC = Deer-vehicle collisions), and deer destroy our gardens. There are two sides to every issue and each side claiming they are right. You can find tons of information regarding deer on the Internet, in books and even the newspapers. Some people claim all deer should be eradicated because they are nothing more then "vermins" and "bumper bandits". While other see them as "God's beautiful animals".
Has it ever occured to anyone that just maybe deer do server a purpose in life? Or should we blindly react and assume exterminating them will make all our issues go away? Who are we to play with Mother Nature?
Below you will find links to more details regarding the three primary issues related to deer.
"Killing deer to eradicate Borrelia burgdorferi (Lyme Disease) is comparable to killing humans to eradicate E.Coli." - Melissa Kaplan
Lyme disease does NOT come from deer. It comes from bacteria found in mice. Removing the ticks and mice will halt the spread of the bacteria.
Lyme Disease needs to be viewed as a public health issue and not a deer management problem.
Increasing human populations, over development, busier roads, dangerous driving habits (i.e.: careless driving, inattentive, speeding, and driving while intoxicated), natural migration and more activities through-out wildlife habitats all contribute to deer/car collisions.
Is your property a "deer runway"? Do deer visit your property often? Then you should invited a consultant from the local Humane Society of the United States to inspect landscaping and give you recommendation for either change or treatment. Deer if "invited" can and will do considerable amount of damage and for some people it can be very costly.
The Sensible Solutions:
If the government was truly concerned about the deer population and our safety they would do more in their power to control the exploding deer population. Killing a handful of deer each year and putting us in danger is not the answer. It will not work. It will only prolong the hunting season. The alternative to local hunting is a three step process in which everyone would need to understand so that we can maintain a safe and friendly community. The alternatives will not be a quick over night solution. It will take time to see the differences but most importantly it will be a safer and viable solution.
In order to live with a smaller population of deer, we need to learn to adapt to the environment so that the deer will not be welcomed in our backyards. Nature has a way of controlling itself and mankind doesn't need to destroy it to change it to change it. We are the outsiders and therefore it is us that need to adapt to our surroundings.
Increasing human populations, roads through wildlife habitats and dangerous driving habits all contribute to deer/car collisions. So we need to change our habits and arrogant behavior. During certain times of the years deer are more likely (prevalent) to cross the road and it is that time in which we need to be more on our guard, slow down and keep our eyes wide open.
