Allen T. Rutberg, Ph.D., an ecologist and a former VP for wildlife issues at The Humane Society, had written in
The Science of Overabundance: Deer Ecology and Population Management that, "the most visible weakness in the
assertion that hunting is necessary to control deep populations is that it has largely failed to do so over the
last two decades… and [j]ust because deer are being killed doesn't mean that deer population are being controlled."
